March 2026 Tax Agenda: Tip Reporting and the Final Countdown

March in Georgia is a beautiful time of transition, but in the accounting world, it signals that the April deadline is rapidly approaching. At Cherokee CPA, we approach this season with enthusiasm and focus, ensuring our clients are prepared for what lies ahead. Here are the critical dates you need to mark on your calendar for March 2026.

March 10 – Tip Reporting for Service Employees

For those working in the service industry—whether you are pouring coffee at a local café or serving customers at a restaurant—tracking your income is essential. If you received more than $20 in tips during February, the IRS requires you to report them to your employer by March 10 using Form 4070.

You can use the official form or a signed statement that lists:

  • Your name, address, and Social Security number
  • Your employer’s name and address
  • The month or period covered
  • The total tips received

Your employer will use this information to withhold the necessary FICA and income taxes from your regular paycheck. If your wages aren't high enough to cover these withholdings, the uncollected amount will be noted in box 8 of your W-2, and you will need to settle that balance when filing your annual return.

March 16 – Secure Your Spot on Our Calendar

With only one month remaining until the individual income tax filing deadline, our schedule at Cherokee CPA is filling up fast. If you haven't booked your appointment yet, now is the time to reach out. We want to ensure we have ample time to maximize your deductions and credits without the last-minute rush.

Don't let missing documents stop you.

A common misconception is that you need every single receipt organized perfectly before calling us. That is not the case. If you are waiting on a few documents, we can still begin the process and create a checklist for the missing items. It is far better to get the ball rolling now than to wait until April.

A Note on Extensions

If you suspect you won't be ready to file by April, don't worry. Filing an extension is a valid strategic move, not a failure. It allows us to prepare a preliminary return, estimate your tax liability to minimize interest or penalties, and buy us the time needed to file an accurate return later. We can handle the extension filing for you, so please contact us to discuss your options.

Standard Filing Rules

Weekends & Holidays: Remember, if a tax due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, the deadline is automatically pushed to the next business day.

Disaster Area Relief: When a region is designated as a federal disaster area, the IRS typically grants automatic extensions. To check if your area is affected and to view specific extended deadlines, please verify with the official resources below:
